Ryan is a 7-year-old approximately 15hh standardbred gelding.
He’s the giver of the best smooches, a friend to everyone who meets him and an all-round great guy.
This is an extremely difficult post to write, as Ryan has earned a special place in our hearts since arriving here last May.
We had high hopes Ryan would make a permanent riding partner for Nic, due to his patient, sweet, intelligent, funny personality (and because, let’s face it, who doesn’t love a Black Beauty 😍🖤)
Unfortunately, Ryan’s rehabilitation from track to hack has posed a few health hurdles and the decision has been made to listen to what the experts, and he, is telling us and to accept our role as a ‘home between homes’, rather than his forever family.
We are most happy to give a full rundown of Ryan’s medical history and the extensive treatments he’s been offered since joining our herd. Ryan has some body issues located where a saddle would sit and so we cannot rehome him for ridden purposes, as he may not be comfortable bearing the weight of a rider (we have supportive veterinary chiropractic documentation detailing this and are happy to chat further). That said, Ryan is paddock sound and up to date with all of his health needs (and then some!)
Ryan has buddied up beautifully with a couple of our standies here – sharing his dinner nicely with good table manners and sitting in the middle of the pecking order in a herd of 3. He would make a wonderful nanny or companion.
Ryan has a relaxed, easygoing nature. You can go out and chuck his rugs on without a halter, he loads/unloads and travels nicely on the float, we’ve taken him take to new properties without fuss (with sheds, an indoor arena and even unloading from the float and walking down laneways by torchlight into a strange paddock in the dark) and generally he is a very friendly, lovely horse to handle and deal with.
Ryan is a gentleman to worm, wash, trim/shoe and he is the first to meet his people at the gate (no carrots required – he just loves his humans!) Ryan has great potential as a therapy horse, or to be a best mate to pull out of the paddock, smother in affection, take for a walk and tell all the world’s worries to (he’s a great listener!)
Ryan has also done some in-hand training and may also be suitable as a natural horsemanship prospect, for groundwork activities.
We have Ryan’s full history, as he has only ever had two owners (including us). Everyone who has been blessed to know Ryan has utterly adored him!
Ryan is simply a delight and is very deserving of the best of forever homes.

Please include some details about your background/experience with horses, current interests, intentions for Ryan and information about where he would be living if he was to join your family!
Please note: Raising the Standards is no longer retraining and rehoming horses to the public, however Ryan (and possibly one other standardbred, with details to come) is a special case, as he was one of Nic’s personal horses, and so we hope putting the feelers out via our standardbred networks gives Ryan the best chance of finding his forever family.
We have paddocks full of retirees here and feel, with Ryan being young and with much love to offer, deserves his ‘own’ person.
Here are a few videos of Ryan below, which demonstrate his beautiful nature:
Please feel free to share Ryan’s details around with your genuine horsey friends, who may be looking for a special horse:
