Raising the Standards is taking EOI for a lovely standardbred gelding.
We’ve had this boy in our care since March, with hopes he’d make a Riding for the Disabled prospect.
Although he is an incredibly kind, gentle soul – and generally very quiet – occasionally he gets a touch worried and requires reassurance from his human to gain confidence.
Unfortunately, the role of RDA horse can be intensive and we feel it may just be a little too much for this gorgeous boy. However, even to be considered for RDA is a great endorsement for his beautiful temperament.
This fella is around 15.1hh, neat build (best suited to a rider up to 75kg), rising 6 years old and he has the most sweet, gentle nature imaginable – he really loves children and is the first to the fence to greet people!
To date, this boy undergone several weeks of groundwork training with Nic (with a focus on desensitising and RDA-style activities) and been ‘backed’ (i.e. sat on and walked around a roundyard under saddle back in May, but not considered ‘broken in’ by our definition and had some weeks off since).
He is one of the best-moving standardbreds we’ve had come through our program, with a lovely trot on the lunge and cracking canter in the paddocks.
Unfortunately, Nic’s had a lot on her plate recently and horse training has been stalled due to family commitments. We also stripped our riding arena back for repair work right before the unexpectedly early start to the rainy season and we now cannot complete construction until some time in spring when the ground dries out (i.e. months away – sigh!)
This has meant that we cannot complete this boy’s training here, now that the decision has been made not to continue with RDA in mind.
If our arena was not under construction and Nic had the capacity to travel out, we would be training him to make the ultimate riding club partner/snazzy little all-rounder – he’s a ripper!
This fella is a lovely blank canvas, best suited to someone experienced looking for a smoochy, smart equine partner to bring along slowly and enjoy 20+ years of adventures with. Or, for someone looking to build a bond with their new horse and then send him off to complete training under a professional.
He’s had a pre-selection veterinary examination, two veterinary chiropractic consultations/treatments (reports will be provided) and is up to date with worming, dental care and barefoot trimming.
